Wasted opportunities

There are some post-war council houses in Barry that are having their rooves stripped so that solar panels can be fitted. Next door there is a small brand new estate - not a solar panel to be seen.

In Criccieth I found a rather newer social housing estate with every roof fitted with solar panels. Next door was a small brand new private development - not a solar panel to be seen.

In Bangor a new energy-efficient housing development is being developed by a housing association with 30 properties. They are all energy efficient with solar panels and air-source heat pumps. But only the 12 units that will be affordable houses "will be completely off fossil fuels such as mains gas and oil".

It seems that full energy efficiency is only available to social housing tenants and others will be faced with major conversion expenses in the future.
